SHADOW DAYS

SHADOW DAY (CURRENT 8TH GRADERS)

BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 2021

The shadow visit is a wonderful way for your student to immerse themselves at St. James for the day. We will match your student with a current Freshman or Sophomore who shares the same interests. Your student will have the opportunity to ask questions, tour our campus, attend classes, and gain insight into the student experience at St. James – not to mention lunch on us. Shadow visits begin September 27, 2021.

Guests have the option of choosing among our pre-selected shadow dates, so we can ensure that they’re experiencing a typical day on our campus.

7TH GRADE VISIT

SPRING 2022 SEMESTER, DATES TBA

This half-day visit for 7th graders provides framing for what they can expect as a guest when they’re 8th-grade full-day visitors. During the 7th grade visits, guests are led by an upperclassman in small groups visiting various classes, meeting key teachers, coaches, sponsors, and administrators. 7th grade visits will be scheduled for second semester and dates are TBD.

THUNDER EXPERIENCE

7:00-8:00pm  |  September 29, October 20, December 1

This new experience was created last year during COVID since we could not offer the typical shadow day in the fall. We are keeping this event because it turned out to be just as beneficial as a shadow day! This experience is for both 8th graders and their parent(s).

Experience SJA after hours! Students and parents, individually, will have the opportunity to interact with current SJA students, experience the house/community system, take a tour and hear what St. James has to offer. Event is reserved for 8th graders and parents of 8th graders only! Space is limited per session. Registration is required.

CAMPUS TOURS

BY APPOINTMENT

Visiting the St. James Campus is a must when families are deciding where to attend high school. Walking through the halls of St. James will give you a sense of what life is like to be a student and a part of our Community. Click below to schedule a tour.

PARENT PROGRAMS

PARENT INFO NIGHT

Tuesday, September 21  |  7:00-8:30pm (Dining Hall)

Join us for the Junior High Parent Information Night at St. James Academy, 7:00 pm, in the dining hall. The Administration provides an overview of St. James curriculum, including STREAM opportunities and career explorations, faith infusion, extra-curricular activities, and the House/Community system. Hear more about the opportunities on our campus and the St. James difference! This is a parent-focused program and registration is required.

TAKE A LOOK TUESDAY

8:45-10:00am  |  December 7 / January 18

Take a Look Tuesday’s were created to provide an in-person opportunity for parents to learn more about St. James and what we have to offer. Deciding on a high school should be a fun and engaging process and we understand how important this decision is for your family. You and your student are an important part of our Catholic family’s future, as well as St. James Academy.

Please join us in-person for one of the above dates. Pre-registration is required as there will be a maximum allowable capacity.

PLACEMENT TESTS

PLACEMENT TEST

St. James Academy administers the HSPT (High School Placement Test) in order to determine the proper placement of incoming freshman to St. James.  The HSPT provides measures in the major skill areas of Reading, Mathematics, Language, and Science, as well as verbal and quantitative cognitive skills.  Since the test is standardized at the same time with a national population of entering high school students, the end results are directly comparable on a national level as well as a local level for all test areas.

All incoming freshmen are expected to take the placement test at the high school where they’re most likely to enroll.  Students may qualify for awards based on test achievement. If your high school choice is not yet determined at test time, that’s okay; register with a testing location and the high schools will share results later.

SPANISH & LATIN PLACEMENT TEST

An additional placement test is required for students wishing to be placed in Honors Spanish II or Honors Latin II. This test is different from the general placement test given. Test will be given at St. James and students may attend either date. Registration is required.

FRESHMAN ENROLLMENT NIGHT

FEBRUARY 15, 2022, 7:00-8:30pm

Freshmen and at least one parent should attend, to receive their placement test scores and the next steps to finalize enrollment. Sessions with each assigned counselor will help clarify the freshman curriculum.
